join the club? |
In the first
instance, email one of the club officers, for which see “Contacts”. |

2. Can I
try the club before I join? |
Potential
members can visit three times before deciding whether to join. |

3. When is
a good time to come? |
By
arrangement with one of the club officers on a suitable Thursday evening
during the winter season (October to March). |

How much does it cost? |
Please
refer to “About us” page. |

5.
Will I have to join the English Chess Federation (ECF)? |
Yes, in due course. |

6.
Will I be good enough? |
Yes.
Anyone who knows the moves may join and improve by playing. |

7.
Does the club provide coaching? |
The club
itself provides no instruction beyond informal chat and the occasional
seminar between members. |

8.
Does the club run sessions for juniors? |
No. |

9.
Do you teach adults how to play? |
No, but
it's relatively easy to teach yourself the basics with a book, DVD, computer
programme or the internet. After that come along and see how you fare. |

10. Why aren't there more
women in your club? Why don't more
women play chess? |
This is
one of life's mysteries! If you wish
to help redress the balance, you will be more than welcome. We have had a few female members in the
recent past. |

11. Is the club accessible
for wheelchair users? |
Unfortunately
the function room we use at the Shrubbery is downstairs with no wheelchair
access.. |

12. Is there a bar? |
Yes. |

13. Will you run my ad or put
a link to my website or blog? |
Perhaps. |

14. Do you accept donations
or bequests? |
Yes, of
course! We are also happy to accept
unwanted chess books and DVDs for our club library. |
