Ethos
Chard and Ilminster Chess Club seeks to promote a high standard of chess in a friendly, welcoming, sportsmanlike and safe environment. The club caters for all standards, from inexperienced player to expert.
Teams
The club fields a team in the Somerset West Evening League. Home games are played on Thursday evenings at the Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster and away games at various locations in West Somerset. Play commences at 19:30, the latest finishing time being 22:30.
Membership
Members pay an annual membership fee of £5
to the club. Membership of the English
Chess Federation is a requirement.
Membership subscriptions are due as of 1st
September.
Equipment
The club owns its own equipment, comprising chess sets, boards and the latest technology in digital chess clocks.
Home venue facilities
The function room at the Shrubbery Hotel is an agreeable venue. There is a well-stocked lounge bar for refreshment before, during and after match games.
